Spelt Berries Organic 500g
Spelt is an ancient grain rich in B vitamins, essential fatty acids, and amino acids. As an ancestor of modern wheat, it has been cultivated in southern Germany for thousands of years. Naturally hardy, it thrives in the Irish climate. However, spelt is difficult to dehull and clean, requiring considerable work at Dunany Farm to prepare the grains to a millable quality for use as both flour and whole berries. When it comes to cooking, spelt grains are incredibly versatile. After simmering for 45–60 minutes, the berries retain their firm texture and mild, nutty flavour. They are high in fibre, low in gluten, and absorb flavours well, making them ideal for hot or cold dishes such as salads, risottos, or as a toasted topping for crunchy breads. Spelt berries are a wholesome and tasty option for a nutritious lunch or light supper.
